Is a Weimaraner the Right Breed For Me?

Cool Dog

Weimaraner puppies have the potential to be one of the most loyal and affectionate companions you will ever have. Yet in order to help them reach their potential there are several things you must keep in mind.
Good VS Evil
Weimaraners can be very dominant and head strong. You need to make sure they know that you are the boss. Therefore the implementation of a structured, consistent, training program is vital. This can not be stressed enough! Positive reinforcement training programs work best with this breed. If you can't implement a positive, structured training program with your dog, then this isn't the breed for you.

Destructive Dog

Weimaraners are also highly intelligent. Therefore, you will need to spend time working to be smarter than he is. A bored Weimaraner can be a destructive Weimaraner. If you don't have the time to work with and challenge your dog, then this isn't the breed for you.

Waking Dog

Weimaraners can also be very affectionate, and love to be near their "people." They will often follow you from room to room, even into the bathroom if you allow them! If you don't like to be followed around and watched all the time - this isn't the breed for you.

Aggressive Dog

Weimaraners are a protective breed. Under socialized or mis-treated and you can have problems with aggression. Again this is where proper training and socialization can make a big difference. If you do not have time to properly train or socialize your dog, then this isn't the breed for you.

Curious Dog

Weimaraners are an active breed. As such you need to ensure that they get plenty of exercise to take the edge off. You don't need to be a tri-athlete to own the breed, but it is best if you have a yard big enough for them to run around in. If you live in an apartment, this probably isn't the breed for you!

Playing Dog

Weimaraners are a fun loving and playful breed. They love to play games and may even teach you some new games. (I know ours have.) If you do not have a good sense of humor, or the time to play with your dog then this is not the breed for you.

Waiting Dog

Weimaraners are an interactive breed. If you want dog you can keep in the backyard, or a dog that'll just patiently wait for a break in your schedule for attention, then this is not the breed for you.
Smart Dog

However, if you want a dog that will fully engage you intellectually, emotionally, and physically, well then, you've found the right breed for you!

" He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion." UNKNOWN
